Mission Description
- Real-World Problem: The UAE and Qatar are racing toward digital economies, especially in fintech. Dubai, for example, has a Cashless Strategy aiming for 90% of transactions to be cashless by 2026 . This means millions of people – from tech-savvy youth to older shopkeepers – must transition to digital payments. The challenge is ensuring financial inclusion and security: How do we bring everyone into the cashless economy, including those less comfortable with technology, while preventing fraud? With the fintech market in the UAE projected to double by 2030 , there’s a need for solutions that make digital payments easy, universal, and safe.
- Mission Task: Create a fintech solution that accelerates the move toward a cashless society in a user- friendly way. Students could develop a smartphone app or wearable device for easy contactless payments tailored to all ages (e.g. simple interfaces and Arabic/English support). Another angle is designing a community e-wallet system that unbanked workers can use securely for remittances and purchases, perhaps with biometric login for those who struggle with passwords. The project should include a prototype app/interface and a plan for security (encryption, OTPs, etc.). Key Skills: App development (mobile or web), UI/UX design (for accessibility), cybersecurity basics (to secure transactions), maybe AI for fraud detection.
- Expected Impact: The proposed fintech innovations will boost financial inclusion and digital literacy. A successful mission would mean more people confidently using e-payments – buying metro tickets with a tap, or a market vendor accepting mobile pay instead of cash. This directly supports the region’s economic visions: a thriving knowledge economy less dependent on cash and oil. By fostering digital payments, students help reduce costs and risks associated with cash handling and support government goals (Dubai’s push for cashless transactions and Qatar’s drive for fintech innovation to diversify its economy). Ultimately, this mission empowers society to embrace fintech for everyday life, laying groundwork for smarter cities and economies.
