Plant Health Monitor

Mission Description

  • Context: The school garden’s plants sometimes dry out because people forget to water them. Let’s make a Smart Plant Health Monitor that alerts us when a plant is thirsty.
  • Task: Place a soil moisture sensor in the soil of a potted plant and connect it to your Junkbot Core. Program the system to read moisture levels. If the soil is too dry (below a certain threshold), trigger an alert: for example, an LED turns red and a sad plant icon or a “Water me!” message scrolls. If the soil is moist, maybe a green LED and a happy plant icon displays. Optionally, add a buzzer chirp for a dry warning to really catch attention.
  • Expected Output: A plant-saving alert device. In demonstration, when you take the sensor out of wet soil (simulating dryness), the device responds with a red light and maybe a small “☹” plant icon. When the sensor is placed in water or very wet soil, a green light or “ ” plant icon appears indicating the plant has enough water. This helps young gardeners learn about plant care and sensor technology for agriculture.
