Smart Traffic Light with Pedestrian Button

Mission Description

  • Context: Expand the traffic helper idea with a full Smart Traffic Light system like one at a busy crosswalk. This one will have red, yellow, green lights and a button for pedestrians to request to cross.
  • Task: Set up three LEDs to represent the traffic light colors. Program them to cycle in the correct order (green -> yellow -> red -> green...) for cars. Now integrate a pedestrian push-button. When the button is pressed, the next cycle should ensure the light turns red (cars stop) and perhaps blink a separate “walk” LED for pedestrians. After a safe crossing time, the system returns to normal cycle. Remember to include timing: e.g., green stays on for X seconds, yellow for Y seconds, red for Z seconds, etc.
  • Expected Output: A miniature traffic intersection model. When running, the LEDs continuously cycle through green, yellow, red for vehicles. If someone presses the pedestrian button, the controller waits for the right moment then switches to red and possibly signals a “walk” light. You can act this out: press the button, and shortly after, see the car light go red – meaning it’s your turn to “cross” safely. This project connects coding with real-world traffic safety logic.
