Mission Description
- Context: Public washrooms or school bathrooms can get stuffy. Often fans are left running unnecessarily or not turned on at all. Build a Smart Washroom Fan controller that turns the exhaust fan on only when the washroom is occupied and off when it’s empty, ensuring good ventilation and energy savings.
- Task: Use an ultrasonic sensor or PIR sensor placed at the door to detect if a person enters. If motion is detected (or the door opens), assume the washroom is occupied – trigger a fan (you can simulate with a small DC motor or LED for the fan). Start a timer; if no movement is detected for a certain period (say 5 minutes), automatically turn the fan off. This may involve using a simple loop or timing logic in code.
- Expected Output: A self-operating ventilation system. When demonstrating, moving in front of the sensor causes the “fan” (motor) to turn on, indicated by its whirring or an LED labeled FAN lighting up. If you then simulate everyone leaving (no motion), after the set time passes the fan LED turns off. This project showcases a practical smart building solution that improves air quality and conserves energy
