Smart Window Blinds Controller

Mission Description

  • Context: To save energy, smart buildings adjust window blinds automatically. Create a Smart Window Blinds Controller that tilts blinds open or closed based on sunlight and room temperature – keeping the room cool and well-lit naturally.
  • Task: Use a light sensor (LDR) and a temperature sensor in a room model. Attach a servo motor to a mini set of blinds or a cardboard cut-out acting as blinds. Program logic such that: in very bright sunlight and a hot room, the servo closes the blinds (to reduce heat); if the room is cool but dark, open the blinds (to let sun in for warmth and light); if the room is cool and bright, you might half-open; if hot and dark (rare but maybe lights are on), maybe fully closed to keep heat out. Essentially, create rules that balance light and temperature. The servo should adjust slats accordingly (0° = closed, 90° = open, etc.). Add manual override button for demonstration.
  • Expected Output: An automatic blinds system. Imagine around midday the sun is shining directly – the LDR reads high light and the temp sensor reads, say, 30°C. The system responds by rotating the servo to close blinds (you’ll see your model blinds flip shut), preventing further heating. Later, if it becomes cloudy and cooler, the device rotates blinds open to allow ambient light and passive heating. This simulates real smart home devices that optimize natural lighting and indoor climate, addressing environmental comfort and energy savings with a hands-on project.
